FREEBEE !! - a manageable and simplistic 3 Page School Self Evaluation (SEF) I designed is now being used by many schools and feedback from governors, HTs and subject leaders has been really positive. This comes in a Word format and I am happy to email this along with any ARMA paper orders for you to have a look at / use / adapt. It is based on a traffic light system and is easy to update and show how a school is moving forward over time.
ARMA (Age Related Maths Assessments) are a brand new set of maths assessments for Year 1, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 which have been joined by Year 2 & Year 6 summative papers and now Bespoke tests for Terms 1 & 2.
ARMA have already been taken by 26,000 pupils across the country in what are being called "a reliable and robust way to measure progress and provide benchmarks."
ARMA and the use of Bloom's Taxonomy in EARWIG fits beautifully with the recommendations in the DfE report on levelling.
The ARMA papers have been scrutinised by inspectors, advisers and subject specialists as well as children from the age of six. The pupils have found them really challenging but interesting due to their colourful format and images. Teachers really appreciate the direct link between each question and the specific new national curriculum age related objectives - and they don't have to photocopy them as we send thirty five printed copies for each class.
For more info and samples of the assessments check out the ARMA webpage.
I hope you find it useful.
I have also developed a series of three DVDs called Essential Teaching Techniques for UK Schools. This project was inspired by a book by Doug Lemov called ‘Teach Like a Champion’ which has become the bedrock of Charter Schools in the United States. The video files provide quick tips and advice for outstanding and efficient teaching and are all based on proper educational research. Above all I want any tips, advice or summaries to end with practical suggestions which I hope will then save time and effort for teachers and head teachers.
The Essential Teaching Techniques for UK Schools DVDs have already proved useful for Teaching Schools, NQTs, teacher training colleges and also experienced teachers who have taken the opportunity to think about the essential teaching techniques that bring about quality teaching. Schools have used them for INSET and CPD sessions to stimulate discussion about the way they teach and how this can be improved by adopting a few basic startegies. More information HERE.
If you wish to email ideas, questions or suggestions then contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org and I will do my best to reply as soon as I can.
